About the Curator
Moya' was born to the Koshka clan in a small aboreal village on Kashyyyk. At the age of 7, he lost his family in a slave raid. He was adopted and raised by his aunt and uncle in a neighboring village. As a youth, Moya' apprenticed in his uncle's bowcaster workshop.
Just prior to his initiation ceremony, Moya' left Kashyyyk with the aid of a smuggler. He moved to Tyrena, Corellia to train as an artisan. While crafting in the cantina, he became interested in music and eventually mastered that profession as well. It was as a musician that Moya' first made a name for himself.
As a novice musician, Moya' studied under Creeva Murkado and Xie 'lanthia, members of the galactically-known band, the Def Stars. They invited their student to join them in a small artist's community with their fellow Def Star, Imcus. Moya's first performance as a Def Star was when he, Creeva and Xie won the first Intrepid Jam Bonanza contest.
Together with Creeva, Xie, and Imcus, Moya' co-founded the <DEF> Guild and the city of Symphonia, Naboo. As he was assisting Creeva with moving the Intrepid Museum to their new city, Moya' began to think about a Wookiee museum. His experiences with people from other species showed him just how little they understood the Wookiee way of life.
Moya' created the Wookiee Cultural Center with several purposes in mind. First and foremost he wanted a place where Wookiees and non-Wookiees could come to share in Wookiee culture. It is Moya's hope that, when other species understand the Wookiees, intolerance and discrimination will become a thing of the past. In addition, he wanted to honor the memory of his lost village, and all the other villages that have been decimated by the slave trade. Finally, he wanted to make Symphonia a focal point for the Wookiee exile community -- a dream that has come true since he convinced the Wookiee Liberation Army to build their guild in the city.
Not all of Moya's life is dedicated to work. One of the first Wookiees to join him in Symphonia was a beautiful dancer named JasminFlower. With the encouragement of the city founders, Jasmin opened the city's cantina -- the Jammin'Flower. After they had been dating for a while, Moya' proposed to JasminFlower in the Wookiee way by presenting her with a quillarat that he had killed with his bare hands. She accepted the proposal and the couple was married in a tradional Wookiee ceremony in a forest village on Endor.
Moya' has now retired from his music career to pursue a new calling. He is studying to be a Wookiee Shaman. His work with the WCC has made him realize that there are many ways he can serve his people.
Increased imperial activity on Naboo forced a move of the Wookiee Center to Wook's Rest, Rori. Unfortunately, the new location was not enough and the museum was razed to the ground by imperial stormtroopers. Since the shift of power occurred on Naboo it has been possible to rebuild the museum in the new city of Slackphonia.
Like most Wookiees living in exile, Moya' and JasminFlower look forward to a time when the Imperial blockade of Kashyyyk is lifted so that they will be able to travel home whenever they wish. Until that time, they continue to fight in the struggle to free their home planet and all of the enslaved Wookiees.
